The Durham Region Diabetes Network was proud to host their third annual Durham Diabetes Day on Saturday, November 5th, 2011. For the second year in a row, the Northview Community Centre in Oshawa provided a perfect location for the event. Durham Diabetes Day was once again a great success with over 300 attendees enjoying a wonderful day full of motivation, education and awareness about diabetes. Hightlights included an informational address from local internist Dr. Theodore Monchesky; informative workshops on topics of interest to people with diabetes; exhibitors showcasing products and services associated with diabetes in Durham Region; our popular 'Ask a Pharmacist' and 'Ask a Dietitian' sessions; the Canadian Diabetes Clothesline Truck; book signing and sampling; and complimentary footcare sessions provided by We Care Durham.
Admission to the event was FREE, and complimentary healthy snacks and beverages (provided by Tim Horton's, and local Loblaws, Metro and Sobey's grocery stores) were also available.
The Durham Region Diabetes Network would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our past and current sponsors, donors and contributors for making this event an annual initiative. With its growth and popularity, Durham Diabetes Day has quickly become an anticipated event in the Durham community. And a huge thank you to all past and present volunteers and staff - your dedication, enthusiasm and hard work is always appreciated!
